Building more shelters for victims will never be a permanent solution to intimate partner violence. We must open our doors, invite the community into our House, and stimulate discussions that increase community engagement, dispel myths, and confront attitudes.

We cannot do this in our victim service locations because shelter and counseling sites are confidential and access by the public is limited.

 The solution?
House of Ruth Maryland’s Community Engagement Center,
accessible and highly visible in Baltimore City.

How We Help

Prevention

Tearing away at the walls of secrecy through outreach, education and training.

Intervention

We ensure that victims in danger receive services and shelter immediately. We also work with abusers to change their behavior.

Advocacy

Changing attitudes and beliefs of intimate partner violence through legislative and social change.
