Panel Speakers

Mildred Muhammad

Mildred D Muhammad is an award-winning, recognized keynote speaker, international expert speaker for the US Dept of State, certified consultant with the Office on Victims of Crime, CNN contributor, domestic abuse survivor, advocate, author, trainer and educator traveling and speaking on a national and international platform to discuss her life of terror, abuse and heartache, all while promoting domestic violence awareness and prevention. Mildred is the ex-wife of the D.C. sniper, John A. Muhammad, who went on a three-week rampage in 2003. The end result, as stated by law enforcement, was to find Mildred and kill her. The very personal details of her experiences involving fear, abuse, and victim-blaming, has allowed Mildred’s mission to be even more influential and of greater purpose. She was a victim who became a survivor and is now a warrior on the issues of domestic abuse/violence. She shares her expertise on what it’s like to be a victim and a survivor of domestic violence “without physical scars”.

After counseling herself and her children to survive victim-blaming through the midst of adversity, she transformed her tragic circumstances into an opportunity to establish ground on all forms of Domestic Violence that are often overlooked such as verbal, mental, economic, spiritual, stalking and emotional abuse. With more vocation and not only speaking of the details and the realities of Domestic Violence, Mildred makes it her mission to be a vessel of support and healing to all those affected by Domestic Abuse/Violence.

Her critically acclaimed memoir, Scared Silent: When the One You Love Becomes the One You Fear, was published by Simon & Schuster in 2009. Muhammad has self-published two working journals, A Survivor’s Journal and Dare to Heal, as well as Planning My Escape (a comprehensive step by-step safety plan) specifically for victims and survivors to help with the emotions that others may not understand. The guide details how to strategically leaving an abusive relationship. Her second and last memoir, I’m Still Standing was published in 2017.

She has received many awards such as: Special Commendation presented by the Office on Violence Against Women, Maya Angelou “Still I Rise” Award, Shirley Chisholm Woman of Courage Award and REDBOOK Strength & Spirit HEROES Award, as well as multiple awards from the military community…just to name a few.

Mildred Muhammad has been interviewed on Oprah: Where Are They Now, Anderson, Ricki Lake, Katie Couric, Issues with Jane Velez-Mitchell, The Mike Huckabee Show, TruTV’s In Session, Larry King Live, The Tyra Banks Show, and Good Morning America, and has appeared on BET and other local and national TV interviews. She has also been interviewed by various national and international radio shows, internet radio, various national and international newspapers, and internet blogs and magazines worldwide, including the BBC, NPR, Essence, Jet, The Washington Post, and Newsweek.

Christi Paul

After nearly 20 years at CNN and HLN, Christi Paul decided it was time to come home to Ohio. Now, you’ll find her every evening anchoring the “What’s Now” 5pm newscast for NBC affiliate WKYC-TV in Cleveland. Previously, Christi spent her weekend mornings anchoring CNN New Day Weekends as well as anchoring/reporting on HLN during the week.

She’s covered the 2020 and 2016 Presidential Elections, the 2016 Republican National Convention, and President Obama’s 2nd Inauguration in Washington, DC. She was on the news desk walking viewers through the first 5 hours of the Newtown, CT school shootings as well as mass shootings at Virginia Tech, Pulse Nightclub in Orlando and the Uvalde, TX school shooting. She secured an exclusive interview with then-Vice-President Joe Biden, talking about his motivation to combat domestic violence.

She anchored extensive coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic, the Russian war on Ukraine, the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, hurricanes, several presidential elections and court cases such as the Casey Anthony, Bill Cosby, Warren Jeffs and Drew Peterson trials. She’s a wife and mother of 3 daughters and as such, has a passion for helping children and teens. She served on the Advisory Board for Robin McGraw’s “When Georgia Smiled” foundation which helps victims of domestic violence and assault find healing, safety and joy. She also served on the National Advisory Council for the One Love Foundation in honor of Yeardley Love, the University of VA Lacrosse player beaten to death by her boyfriend, and is involved with Girl Talk Inc, an organization where high school girls mentor middle school girls to help build self-esteem and combat bullying.

Tired of simply having to tell viewers news stories about children who are missing, Christi went to work, founding “Find Our Children”…a partnership with The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in Washington, DC. HLN featured a segment about missing child, asking viewers to help find them and 35 of the children they profiled have been brought home safe and sound.

In 2012 NCMEC honored Christi with their prestigious Hope Award…an award she shares with past winners such as former Secretary of State Colin Powell, then-Senator Joe Biden and actor Ben Affleck. Christi’s also an author. Her book Love Isn’t Supposed to Hurt, in which she speaks about overcoming verbal and emotional abuse, immediately hit Amazon’s top 20 and she recorded two songs in Nashville that coincide with the book. “Wake Up In It” and “Free” can both be found on iTunes. Christi’s no stranger to singing as she’s sung onstage with Grammy winners Richard Marx and David Foster.
