About this training: At least 4.2% of Marylanders identify as lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender. Members of LGBTQIA+ communities experience intimate partner violence at rates higher than the general population. The people around and within these communities must be prepared to respond to intimate partner violence appropriately and in a way that recognizes how abuse can impact members of LGBTQIA+ communities differently.

In this training, you’ll learn how to respond professionally with cultural humility, kindness, and empathy when working with LGBTQIA+ survivors of intimate partner violence, and examine the specific barriers these communities may face when seeking help.

This training will cover:

  • What cultural humility and implicit bias means and its impact on the LGBTQIA+ community
  • Ways you can increase your understanding of the LGBTQIA+ community and the particular ways intimate partner violence impacts the community
  • How to identify and dismantle barriers LGBTQIA+ survivors experience when accessing comprehensive intimate partner violence services
  • Effective ways to support LGBTQIA+ survivors
