House of Ruth Maryland’s “Regional Training Strategic Planning for Domestic Violence Programs” initiative will bring both the “Comprehensive Intimate Partner Violence” and “Working with Perpetrators of Intimate Partner Violence” trainings to four regions across the state, and provide free admission for representatives from each of Maryland’s Victim Service Organizations and each certified abuse intervention program (AIP) in the area. This program is intended to provide training support for advocates, increase programs’ preparedness for certification, and foster collaboration and cooperation among partner agencies and stakeholders throughout Maryland.
In addition, the State’s diversity in service structures and demographics across its twenty-three counties and Baltimore City requires that jurisdictional strategic plans be developed and implemented to increase the safety, and meet the needs, of victims of domestic violence crime in Maryland. House of Ruth Maryland will guide regional teams through that process as part of the Comprehensive Intimate Partner Violence Training’s agenda.
Each training participant will benefit from face-to-face time with local stakeholders to increase collaboration and creative thinking for their specific county. Each participant will also be provided with the strategic plan developed for their county and a clear understanding of their role in its success. In addition, 16 Category 1 Social Work CEUs will be available to each participant of both the CIPV Training and WWP Training. These CEUs are accepted for professionally licensed social workers and counselors, as well as other professional organizations in Maryland. The Governor’s Office on Crime Control & Prevention and all training participants will be provided with a final summary report that details each county plan and identifies where barriers and opportunities overlap across Maryland. This final report will also be publicly shared through House of Ruth Maryland’s e-mail distribution lists and website at the conclusion of the project.
About the Trainings
House of Ruth Maryland prides itself in its interactive, multi-media approach to training, which is informed by our talented service providers and the victims they serve. These two trainings are nationally recognized as resources for professionals working in the domestic violence field. It is common to have multiple participants in the trainings who have traveled from far outside of Maryland.
Comprehensive Intimate Partner Violence Training
This is a four day training that is equally beneficial for new and seasoned staff. Core competencies are reviewed, but each workshop also includes a continued learning component to point out cutting edge best practice or participate in creative, experiential learning opportunities. For this year’s training, strategic planning sessions will be introduced throughout the training so that regional teams can work together to build a shared vision for their county.

Working with Perpetrators of Intimate Partner Violence Training
This is a three day training that supports abuse intervention program facilitators in engaging participants in a change process. Without dictating which curriculum should be used, this training benefits facilitators and administrators alike by focusing on group dynamics, engagement strategies, and the impact of program policy on participant motivation.
